Archives for category: Work outs

I started writing this yesterday and by that I mean I opened up word press for the first time in almost a month and wrote the word focus as a title and then continued to do every other thing minus right a blog post.  Yesterday I went for a job interview and it got me to thinking.  I will hear back about the job on thursday.  When I hear back I will relate the news but if I think about the interview I start to nit pick everything. So anyway, not thinking about it.  Monday I started a living social deal I bought for one month of unlimited yoga at Yoga Fox.  So far I have done 5 classes in 4 days and am really enjoying “traditional” yoga.  Because of the interview I did not get to do yoga yesterday so today I took two classes a general flow class which was an hour and a half and a lunch power hour class.  There was a 30 minute break so I check to make sure I had no important email, none, and had a power bar.  After that I went and ordered our wedding bands!  I am so excited they will be here in 2-3 weeks.

After all that I got home and it was already 2:00pm and I was pretty hungry.  So I made a green monster and had some pretzels, peanuts and raisins on the side.

and my first smoothie in a bowl!  i liked it.  the green monster included, spinach, soy vanilla protein powder, water, ice, banana and mango.  it was very good.

I had a portrait lens which is great for photographing people but really hard for still lives since I had to be on the other side of the kitchen to get anything in focus but I was to hungry to waste time chanting lenses so that is that.

So what was I saying about focus?  I find that I start something get distracted and then move on to something else and while sometimes that is necessary, like when firefox will not stop freezing other times it leads me to meander through my days.  I love schedules but it is hard to schedule a day when a big part of my day is answering the phone and replying to emails.

I am not sure how i thought this week was going to go but no workouts have gotten done.  We did do a little biking on sunday but not much more then 4 miles because it was just to get breakfast and come back.  But my goal was to make a schedule not to stick to it so I am ok with it.  I mean sticking with it is the point of the schedule but I knew this week would be tough.

My friend Jessica, sent me this interesting article about goals and I thought it was pretty helpful and kinda what I am trying to do.  I think I could be more specific like “snack smarter” but I do not want to say have a banana everyday because I do not believe you should be held to those type of restrictions especially when it comes to food.   I do like number 5 “focus on being better, rather then being good” I feel this is where “having less down days” falls.  I know I will always have down days no matter what but trying to make them less often or maybe not whole days, just bad half days or bad hours.

I am going to go clean the kitchen and make a nice healthy lunch now.  Have a great Wednesday!

On monday I set out to do a smooth 3 miles.  I currently do not have any training plan except to run.  It was the afternoon and i find I am usually faster then but usually I do not have the time to run in the afternoon.  So I am running and I run 1.5 and then turn around.  This is the usual route I run and its on the side walk of a pretty busy road.  I usually jog past one or two people but there is not a ton of foot traffic.  I was listening to the Wicked soundtrack, i love musicals, but as the soundtrack goes on it kinda gets slower so I wanted something to pump me up for the last .3 miles.  I went on my ipod trying to find “Can’t Stop Believing” song by the Glee cast, I totally am just putting it all out there on this one, I swear I sometimes listen to good music, but instead of selecting that song I selected “Can’t Stop” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers which was actually a really great song to end on. I am almost done and I see this lady walking, then start running towards me and then she sticks out her hand for a high five as I pass and says something like “way to go”.  First, I do not know this lady maybe we have passed before but I am 95% sure she was not in “running gear”, but in my flight of endorphins I high fived her and continued on my way.  So yeah that was interesting.  Any one else have people randomly high five you?  Here are my times, I need to set my garmin so it does not add it up like that but that would require time, one day.

lap 1: 13:11
lap 2: 27:30
lap 3: 39:53
lap 4 cool down: 43:04

sweaty but happy

when i started to run during the day i started to notice this.  i thought it was a wicked sock tan but its more like dirt.  it reminds me of when i was a kid and i thought i would get tan at camp but then you would shower and it would go away.

i also need to get a darker colored hat.  so over humid florida and its only april.  its going to be a long summer.  well thats all the weird reveling stuff i got for now.  hope everyone has a fun and relaxing weekend!

On friday I had to drop Vin off at work which meant I was in the car already and could drive some where to run.  I choose to run on AIA which is the road that runs parallel to the ocean.  While the part I ran you can not see the ocean it has become on of my favorite places to run.  First off, the huge multi million dollar house on either side, the inter coastal which you can see sometimes and the super cute dogs.   I did not bring my phone so no pics from the run but here are my stats

mile 1: 11:52
mile 2: 24:40
mile 3: 38:40
mile 4: 51:30
mile 5: 1:04:04
mile 6: 1:16

This is one of my best times and I attribute that to all the running Vin and I have been doing as well as having only enough change for an hour and 20 min in the meter.  Nothing like the fear of a parking ticket to get your but moving.

post run victory stance.post run victory meal.  oatmeal and strawberries.

on monday morning i got up and had no want to run.  i bargained with myself  and decided 3 miles at a reasonable speed would do.  i am not really training for anything because i am working with my fiance to build up his running abilities so it sometimes is tough for me to decide what to run.  i came, i ran, i would not say i conquered. here are my times

mile 1: 13:30
mile 2: 14:50
mile 3: 12.25

not bad. vin and i are currently doing the 3rd week of couch to 5k and he is doing really good.  this week it is run 90 second walk 90 second run 3 min walk 3 min twice.  i keep trying to push him to run more but we are running around 8:30-9:30 which is pretty fast for me even for a short time so i just need to remind myself he is just starting out.  i think he might even be starting to understand why i like to run so much, but lets not jump the gun.

before the 3 milers i had some unphotographed oatmeal, with raisins, flax seed and peanut butter.  when i got back i did some rearranging of the book shelves and dusting.  after that i was hungry for lunch.  i usually try to have a big spinach salad but we are out of spinach so i thought i would try to make a smoothie.    in the mix

2 hand fulls of kale

1 frozen bananna

1 frozen mango

1/2 cup of reduced fat milk

1/2 2% Fage yogurt

3 frozen strawberries

2 handful of ice

we currently only have a chocolate protein powder that i think is a little strong so i also made 4 hard-bowled eggs on the side with a slice of chedder cheese.  I did not think i would eat all the eggs but i did, just the whites i have never really liked the taste of the yellows.  one summer i had a major love affair with jamba juice and they were always super yummy but they never filled me.  while i had one and half glasses of this I did not feel full so i grabbed a couple sun chips which was a total mistake.  I was so full plus I do not drink milk so my stomach was really being pushed.  next time no sunchips and maybe one less egg.

because i was so full i did not have an afternoon snack which led me to be really hungry by the time i met up with my two girl friends for dinner and decided that wings and a side salad was a smart choice.  i do have to say that was not what put me over it was the brownie encased in a cookie with ice cream that we all shared that made all of us feel like we were bursting at the seems but we were celebrating so why not! what were you celebrating you ask? my birthday of course! so that is more or less how i spent my 24th birthday.

Vin and I did another 90 second run 30 second walk for 25min this morning.  He seemed to be doing better did not pretend to puke this time.  Its been good for me because he runs at a 9:30-10:00 min pace and that is where I want to be.  We are only going to run together every other day so on those days I will do my speed, tempo and longer run workouts.

Breakfast this morning was sandwich thins, peanut butter, flax seed, raisins with a side of strawberries and to drink pipping hot coffee and water.after breakfast i did some cleaning with these new sponge replacement type of thing called

Spaghetti Scrub from this company called Goodybe Detergent.  I got mine from crate and barrel online along with this mini back wear site for $4 dollars so i can make mini yummy things like chocolate peanut butter cups.  I was super nervous to try these scrubbers for some reason and i have to say they kick ass.  Not only do you not need soap but they are so great for getting into weird places, like lids and whisks.  I am so excited to use them! They are suppose to last for months and not smell.  The one i got is made out of peach pit.  Pretty cool.

yay friday! which means for me one i get the weekend with Vin! two I am shooting my first wedding! and three oscar sunday!

so i was suppose to do 5 miles today but i was getting anxious about time so i did a steady 3 miler.  here is the break down

mile 1: 15:43 (nice and slow)

mile 2: 13:57 (little not as slow)

mile 3: 13:21 (yay faster then before)

total: 43:24 (not bad.  did not want to over due knowing i will be on my feet all day)

after my run.very serious portrait.  still working on that mirror thing.  you think growing up in the myspace age i would be better but i have  a really hard time.  i also am surprisingly good sore from yesterday meaning it worked those soon to be abs.  not only will i be on my feet but i will also be  carrying around my huge butt equipment bag

note, major sucking in tummy going on here.  i had all the straps on to see how it fit including the chest and waist one.  this bag fits so much and i am so happy but it weights a metric ton and my back is going to be aching.  just have a few more preparations for the wedding then I am off!

today i needed a break from running so i planned on doing a yoga dvd that i had picked up from the library

but i did not feel like looking at the tv.  so i decided to go for it on my own.

as soon as a lay down my yoga mat, my cat, dexter (named after micheal c. hall’s vigilantly serial killer character) decides he must sit right there.  after having a little fight with him about this i did 5 sun salutations then tried to do the standing series from the bikryam studio i went to.  i promised myself to give it an hour and about 45 minutes into i was over it.  so i went to sit down at the computer and stumbled upon Laurel House site Quickie Chick one she is so very playboy bunny news caster it is kinda funny and two the exercises are geared toward being lazy about not getting out of bed, im in! I did some but, boobs and abs stuff though i really need to focus on abs, they are just so hard.  i look forward to doing more of her workouts in the future.  yay fun find.

I have such a hard time starting posts.  My 9th grade English teacher once told me to just start writing what you are thinking even if you end up deleting it later.

Little recap of my last two workouts.  One from Friday and the other from today.  I was hoping that I would be able to convince my friend Sam to run a half marathon on April 3rd when I am up North to do a wedding gown fitting but we both decided that that is pushing it so we are going to just do a 5k.  I am super excitedx this will only be my second 5k but a lot has changed since the last one.  This morning I started Hal Higdon intermidate 5 k 8 week plan even though I only have something like 6 I always need a plan.  So I did 3.2 miles this morning which went well I finished it in 40:23 min.  Its a fine time and I know I have a bit of time to help pick up the pace.  I have conflicting feelings on my pace and how hard to push myself.  I think I should be able to run faster but I don’t want to not enjoy it/injury myself.  I really like running and I never thought I could say that and I sometimes worry that if I push myself to hard I won’ t like it?  That sounds pretty lame writing it but that is how I feel.  Any advice on pace, slow running?

me after fridays run

lap 1:  13:15 (13:15)
lap 2:  26:12 (12:97)
lap 3:  38:55 (12:43)

monday’s run

lap 1 12:49
lap 2 24:52 (12:03)
lap 3 40:23 (16:00)

wow that super embarrassing.  I did, and usually take the weekend off from planned exercise.  We did take a couple mile walk in my casual sneakers which was a total mistake.  Well tomorrow I have a speed work workout planned and we will see how that goes.
