the crossfit i go to post the daily wod around 9pm the night before.  when i was first starting i would check it before i left so i could watch some videos to at least know what equipment i could start collecting.  after a month starting to know more i stopped checking the site regularly because i would find myself dreading and over thinking what was to come. so that is how i show up on friday and all i see on the board is “Test yourself: 5k”  While before, during and after I was pretty upset about this workout I did well.  I did not get to run me annual 5k race due to work so I finished around 36 min which is great for me.  maybe when things quiet down with work I will sign up for an official 5k to see if i can get below the 34 min mark.

A few weeks ago I decided that I should run the same 5k that I ran last year the only thing is I had not been really running that much since I had been doing Bikram Yoga.  Nonetheless, a few Saturdays ago Vin and I got up at 6 am on a Saturday morning and heading downtown.  This year they expanded the race to include a 10k which a think double the participation, so it was a little crowed. Vin snapped some photos as I stretched and I told him that he should see me around the 45min mark.  That is what I have been running 3 miles at on my own a month ago so I thought that was a safe bet.  

me running about .4 miles in.   I get very camera shy and I thought I was telling myself to look at the camera but obviously that is not the case.  The course is easy, its Florida, straight shot on A1A.  To my left is the ocean and to the right is beautiful houses so it is pretty easy to keep yourself moving.  The only negative is it is a run out, 1.5 miles and run back.  I like seeing all the fast people run  back but it gets a little boring on the way back.  I had my Garmin 305 on and I was not keep to close track of my mile marks just trying to keep moving and once I turned back and hit 2.5 I realized that I would beat my time from last year.

And it turned out by more then a minute.  Last years time was 36:51 and this years time 35:36.


On monday I set out to do a smooth 3 miles.  I currently do not have any training plan except to run.  It was the afternoon and i find I am usually faster then but usually I do not have the time to run in the afternoon.  So I am running and I run 1.5 and then turn around.  This is the usual route I run and its on the side walk of a pretty busy road.  I usually jog past one or two people but there is not a ton of foot traffic.  I was listening to the Wicked soundtrack, i love musicals, but as the soundtrack goes on it kinda gets slower so I wanted something to pump me up for the last .3 miles.  I went on my ipod trying to find “Can’t Stop Believing” song by the Glee cast, I totally am just putting it all out there on this one, I swear I sometimes listen to good music, but instead of selecting that song I selected “Can’t Stop” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers which was actually a really great song to end on. I am almost done and I see this lady walking, then start running towards me and then she sticks out her hand for a high five as I pass and says something like “way to go”.  First, I do not know this lady maybe we have passed before but I am 95% sure she was not in “running gear”, but in my flight of endorphins I high fived her and continued on my way.  So yeah that was interesting.  Any one else have people randomly high five you?  Here are my times, I need to set my garmin so it does not add it up like that but that would require time, one day.

when i started to run during the day i started to notice this.  i thought it was a wicked sock tan but its more like dirt.  it reminds me of when i was a kid and i thought i would get tan at camp but then you would shower and it would go away.

i also need to get a darker colored hat.  so over humid florida and its only april.  its going to be a long summer.  well thats all the weird reveling stuff i got for now.  hope everyone has a fun and relaxing weekend!

on monday morning i got up and had no want to run.  i bargained with myself  and decided 3 miles at a reasonable speed would do.  i am not really training for anything because i am working with my fiance to build up his running abilities so it sometimes is tough for me to decide what to run.  i came, i ran, i would not say i conquered. here are my times

mile 1: 13:30
mile 2: 14:50
mile 3: 12.25

not bad. vin and i are currently doing the 3rd week of couch to 5k and he is doing really good.  this week it is run 90 second walk 90 second run 3 min walk 3 min twice.  i keep trying to push him to run more but we are running around 8:30-9:30 which is pretty fast for me even for a short time so i just need to remind myself he is just starting out.  i think he might even be starting to understand why i like to run so much, but lets not jump the gun.

before the 3 milers i had some unphotographed oatmeal, with raisins, flax seed and peanut butter.  when i got back i did some rearranging of the book shelves and dusting.  after that i was hungry for lunch.  i usually try to have a big spinach salad but we are out of spinach so i thought i would try to make a smoothie.    in the mix

2 hand fulls of kale

1 frozen bananna

1 frozen mango

1/2 cup of reduced fat milk

1/2 2% Fage yogurt

3 frozen strawberries

2 handful of ice

we currently only have a chocolate protein powder that i think is a little strong so i also made 4 hard-bowled eggs on the side with a slice of chedder cheese.  I did not think i would eat all the eggs but i did, just the whites i have never really liked the taste of the yellows.  one summer i had a major love affair with jamba juice and they were always super yummy but they never filled me.  while i had one and half glasses of this I did not feel full so i grabbed a couple sun chips which was a total mistake.  I was so full plus I do not drink milk so my stomach was really being pushed.  next time no sunchips and maybe one less egg.

because i was so full i did not have an afternoon snack which led me to be really hungry by the time i met up with my two girl friends for dinner and decided that wings and a side salad was a smart choice.  i do have to say that was not what put me over it was the brownie encased in a cookie with ice cream that we all shared that made all of us feel like we were bursting at the seems but we were celebrating so why not! what were you celebrating you ask? my birthday of course! so that is more or less how i spent my 24th birthday.

yay friday! which means for me one i get the weekend with Vin! two I am shooting my first wedding! and three oscar sunday!

so i was suppose to do 5 miles today but i was getting anxious about time so i did a steady 3 miler.  here is the break down

mile 1: 15:43 (nice and slow)

mile 2: 13:57 (little not as slow)

mile 3: 13:21 (yay faster then before)

total: 43:24 (not bad.  did not want to over due knowing i will be on my feet all day)

after my run.very serious portrait.  still working on that mirror thing.  you think growing up in the myspace age i would be better but i have  a really hard time.  i also am surprisingly good sore from yesterday meaning it worked those soon to be abs.  not only will i be on my feet but i will also be  carrying around my huge butt equipment bag

note, major sucking in tummy going on here.  i had all the straps on to see how it fit including the chest and waist one.  this bag fits so much and i am so happy but it weights a metric ton and my back is going to be aching.  just have a few more preparations for the wedding then I am off!
